I wanted to show you a little bit about why we created our summer season reading program.
For me, it was because of my students.
Over the years of mentor in my personal learning center, moms and dads would bring their kids to me that were behind in reading and spelling.

Sometimes they were simply a little bit behind, sometimes they were method behind, and often they were at grade level and simply wished to progress faster.
Sometimes this was because the students had learning troubles like dyslexia and ADHD. Other times, this was just because the instructors did not teach all of the specific abilities required to read.
There is a science-proven, detailed manner in which all kids can be successful with reading. However, unfortunately, teachers themselves often are not taught how to teach kids in this way.

The problem was that I was just able to see them for an hour at a time and only twice a week.
How could I get these trainees' skills up while not just supplying a band-aid service?
Traditional tutors typically just work on homework. Regrettably, this does not attend to the origin of trainees' troubles and does not in fact get their skills up.
So, I went to the research study and what I learned from my coaches in my early years of mentor.

I found that brief daily fluency practice assists all trainees read much faster, more accurately, and inherently enhances their understanding abilities.
I found that using graphic organizers helps students discover the main point and details, series occasions, and arrange their thoughts to enhance their understanding. Trainees could lastly comprehend and picture what they read.
I found that a lot of words in English follow 8 specific spelling patterns and when you learn the patterns, spelling becomes much easier and spelling lastly makes sense.
I found that brain-body activities enhance neuroplasticity and translate to making discovering much easier in all areas.
I found that executive function abilities were often not taught in school. These abilities are so crucial, not simply with preparing for school projects but in life.

I discovered that mentor through our senses (hearing, seeing, and doing) enhanced their reading and spelling skills much faster. It did not matter if they had finding out challenges or if they were just simply looking to advance quicker.
I put together a program of these findings into brief 5-20 minute everyday activities that I might do with my students.
It wasn't long prior to my trainees and parents began seeing tremendous results. Trainees that were behind by 1-2 years frequently got up to grade level in 2-4 months.
Educators began to ask what I was doing with these kids. Moms and dads wanted to know what the magic sauce was.
I understood I needed to make my program summer reading program near Enterprise - NV state readily available to more students no matter where they live. I needed to make the program in a manner that parents can do it with their kids on their schedule in the house.
This is why I developed the summertime reading program.

The program does take some participation from a parent for grades K-2, but for grades 3-8, the majority of kids can do most activities in the program by themselves.
